STRETCH FIBRES and FABRICS: REACHING NEW LEVELS of COMFORT, 2015

6.1.2016

Stretch fibres and fabrics offer several performance benefits compared with their stretchless counterparts, including extremely high levels of elongation, excellent recovery from repeated stretch, and outstanding garment shape retention.

Elastane or spandex, which was introduced for corsetry, is now used in almost all categories of apparel in response to consumer demand for apparel with high levels of stretch and recovery.

Categories which use stretch fibres and fabrics include compression garments, denim, everyday ready-to-wear garments, fashion wear, hosiery, outerwear, shapewear (shaping garments), sportswear, swimwear, underwear, waistbands and workwear.

Stretch fibres and fabrics: reaching new levels of comfort, 2015, is a new 62-page research report, published in issue 53 of Performance Apparel Markets. The report has proved to be extremely popular and so we have decided to extend our special offer for December 2015 by making it available for purchase by non-subscribers at a special price throughout January 2016.

Several variants of elastane (spandex) have recently been developed in order to meet demand for high performance and durability. There have also been major advances in the development of alternative stretch fibres such as polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and elasterell.

As a result, manufacturers of stretch fabrics and garments can now choose from a broad range of fibres in order to meet specific customer demands in terms of stretch and recovery and other performance properties.

This 62-page research report provides a wealth of information on various types of stretch fibres and stretch fabrics, and the applications in which they are used. The report also discusses trends in supply and demand, and provides an overview of the key producers of stretch fibres and yarns, and stretch fabrics.

Please see below for a detailed list of contents, tables and charts.
